Florida Scrub Lizard

Florida Scrub Lizard - Sceloporus woodi
Location - Savannas Preserve State Park
Habitat - Mainly scrub and other dry, open sandy places.
Range - Mostly in the Ocala National Forest and the Lake Wales Ridge, a smaller population occurs in scrub near the Atlantic Coast.
Description - These are small gray, or grayish-brown lizards with spiny scales. They have a distinguishing thick brown stripe on the side of the body from the base of the neck into the tail, otherwise they are very similar to the Eastern fence lizard. Males have a black throat with torquise patches at the base and tourquise on the sides of the belly. Females lack the torquise patches, but sometimes have lighter areas on their bellies.
