A common plant of pond margins and disturbed sites in most of Florida. The range extends through the southeastern coastal states from Texas to Virginia, plus Pennsylvania and California.
The basal and lower stem leaves are obovate-spatulate and 4-16mm (~3/16 to 5/8 in.) wide. The bracts in the heads are spatulate to oblanceolate.
