NORTHERN RIGHT WHALE
Florida native
Endangered Florida species
U.S. Endangered species
In the winter the northern right whale females travel south to calve off the coast of Georgia & Florida.
They can be distinguished from other whales by a lack of dorsal fin and a v-shaped blowhole spray.
Individuals can be identified by the unique pattern of callosities on their heads (see photo at right).
The northern right whale is considered the most endangered of all the large whales.
