An occasional perennial wildflower of hammocks in Jackson, Liberty, Leon and Wakulla Counties of Florida. The range extendas throughout much of the eastern United Stes except Maine, west into New Mexico and Kansas, north into Ontario and Quebec.
The basal and lower stem leaves are ovate or obovate (widest near the rounded tip), gradually tapered towards the base and having the upper stem leaves greatly reduced, sessile and clasping. The yellow flowers are in open or congested corymbiform arrays. Phyllaries green, sometimes with reddish tips.
