An occasional wildflower of floodplain forests, calcarous hammocks and disturbed sites in the northern peninsula and central and western panhandle of Florida. The range includes nearly all of the United States, plus into both southern Canada and parts of Mexico.
The small flowers are 2.5cm (1 in.) across or less and are made up of 100 to 400 narrow white rays that sometimes have a pinkish tint. The disk is yellow and the involucre is 4-6mm (~1/8 to 1/4 in.) high. The stems have long spreading trichomes that are usually longer than the width of the stem.
